What is the US Citizenship Test?
The US citizenship test, also called the naturalization test or citizenship interview, is a key step to becoming an American citizen. This test isn’t just about answering questions. It shows your understanding of US history, government, and commitment to American values. The test has three main parts:
N-400 Interview
This part checks your eligibility and moral character for citizenship. A USCIS officer will ask questions based on your N-400 form, including details about your travel history, legal status, and background.
Civics Test
This tests your knowledge of US history and government. You’ll answer up to 10 questions from a list of 100. To pass, you need to get at least 6 correct.
English Test
This assesses your reading, writing, and speaking skills in English. You will:
Read a sentence aloud
You need to read one of the three provided sentences correctly to show your ability to read in English.
Write a sentence
You must write one of three provided sentences correctly as dictated by the examiner to demonstrate your writing skills.
Speak during the interview
The USCIS officer will evaluate your ability to understand and to speak English based on your responses to questions.
American Citizenship Requirements
The path to citizenship, known as naturalization, varies depending on your specific situation. Whether you’ve been a lawful permanent resident for five years, are married to a US citizen, or have served in the military, there are different requirements you must meet. Is the Naturalization Test Multiple Choice?

To pass the civics part of the exam, you’ll need to answer 6 out of 10 questions right.
Is the US Citizenship Test Hard?
You might wonder, “Is the US citizenship test really that hard?” The truth is, it can be challenging, but it’s definitely manageable with proper preparation.
It isn’t just about memorizing facts; it’s about understanding the values and history of the United States and demonstrating your English skills in reading, writing, and speaking.
